I've been fishing on a normal rod with line and sinkers and what not. I just wanted to read the experiences of people who've been fishing on this type of set up compared to those of fly fishing. I was pondering on the issue of starting up fly fishing myself.

I'm starting salmon fishing, I was wondering what colors should I use on my flashers? Or what color you recommend and what flashers you recommend too. Thanks.
Also, what kind of lure and what color of lure? And, does it matter if the lure color matches the flasher?
I'm going salmon fishing/camping for 3 days and will only have a cooler full of ice (that I can refill with fresh ice). Will it be ok to keep the whole salmons I catch in the cooler? Or should I gut them and de-head them?
I've been looking at getting a 8' or 9' Shimano salmon/steelhead rod, but I'm not sure what the best action is. I want to make sure I get the best one suited for the salmon fishing mostly from riverbanks during salmon runs in the fall.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
