As long as the season is open, the best time to go fishing is when you can.

this time of year, time is not that important in streams and rivers..the best time on lakes is within a week of ice out –in this case about early may..and then i had the most luck during the warmest part of the day around early afternoon

The best time to trout fish is different everyday. If its a nice warm day the fish tend to bite during the early afternoon hours 1-3pm. If it is a colder day they tend to stay in the deepest part of the area and tend to bite in early morning 7-9am or late afternoon around 6-7pm. In stearms tho you can catch fish all parts of the day but if u want to catch a big one wait til right before dark the fish more to the banks to eat bait that was lost. Good Luck.

It varies from day to day depending on weather. On cold days mid afternoon seems best to me, I think because thay’s when the things trout eat are most active. On warm days, early morning and late afternoon seem best, maybe because trout don’t like the heat.
When it starts raining is almost always good because trout know the water will soon be muddy and that makes it harder for them to feed.
The bottom line is to fish whenever you can because you can’t catch a trout while you are not on the water.
I live in Virginia and here we can fish for trout all year. I have about 70 trout in my freezer now, all caught on Blue Fox Super Vibrax spinners.

Every chance you get!!! Morning, Afternoon, Night! I personally like to arrive and have all the prep done just before sunrise, so that my fly is on the water at first crack of dawn.
I also enjoy fishing when they are biting, not biting, it’s raining or sunny!

Aw Heck, just put pole in my hand and turn me loose!

    Catch ‘em!

I reckon your upstate, so I’ll just say that there are tons of streams that are doing great all day long. Where in NY are you? Buffalo, Syracuse, Ithica? It depends on what are of NY your from, but generally, they do great all day, but mornings always seemed to be best for me.

you gota go now! trout season as you said has just started and there is really no specific time to go. it all depends on what stream you go to. but if mornings work for you then you should go. but anytime would work really!

No matter what species i fish for i’m there just before daylight. I just went steelhead fishing in Erie wed and they hit right away. Had a limit in an hour of 3. They shut down about 10am for 2 hrs, Were biting midday, shut down around 2pm, then it was fish on again until dusk. Caught 2 dozen and lost 6 or 7. Always fish at daybreak and dusk at the very least !! Stocked trout will hit mostly all day long as they haven’t been in the water long and are still stupid. It doesn’t take them long to get smart though, lol. Tight Lines !!!

anytime main thing is o2 content and water temp I just caught 24 in an hour. it was windy, cold, and the water was chilly. You just need to know where there are at

You can go trout fishing anytime. You just need to change your tactics for that time of day. If it is hot the trout will be deeper etc. I hope this helps, regards Steve.
